The module consists of a printed circuit board housed in a plastic case. The incoming optical fiber is connected to the receiver input (Rx) and the outgoing optical fiber to the transmitter output (Tx). The 9-pin D-type connector is used for the RS-485 connection.

The RER103 module has a number of features, including:
