1785-BCM is a backup communication module for PLC-5 programmable controllers. It is a discontinued product, but is still supported by Rockwell Automation.

The 1785-BCM has three communication interfaces:

• One high-speed serial link (HSSL) interface
• Two DH+/RIO interfaces

The HSSL interface is used to communicate with the primary PLC-5 processor. The DH+/RIO interfaces are used to communicate with other PLC-5 processors or with DH+ or RIO devices.

The 1785-BCM is used to back up the primary communication path between the PLC-5 processor and the I/O system. If the primary communication path fails, the 1785-BCM will take over and provide communication between the processor and the I/O system.
